The Power of an Idea® Scholarship Contest gives Boston public high school and Boston charter school students (grades 9 - 12) an opportunity to create an invention by taking an idea from concept to creation to patent. The winner of the contest will receive a $15,000 scholarship to be used for tuition and expenses for higher education. Also, as part of the prize package, the winner will receive legal patent services for the winning device, machine or process.

Informational Session: Attend this session for a detailed discussion about application requirements and contest rules.
Coaching Sessions: These sessions give students the opportunity to work one-on-one with patent attorneys Dave Gomes and Steve Ball, who will assist with searching invention ideas on the www.uspto.gov website, answering questions and guiding students through application and final report process. Students can attend one or all sessions.
*If you are not a student of the John D. O'Bryant School and plan to attend an informational or coaching session, you must RSVP before the day of the session. Click here to RSVP.
*Assistance with final report preparation is available if you are unable to attend coaching sessions. Please contact us.
